Apollo NZ Supports Youth Cricket: Partnering with the Queen Street Cricket Club for a Better Future
At Apollo NZ, we are proud to support the Queen Street Cricket Club (QSCC), a charitable organization dedicated to advancing youth cricket in New Zealand. With over 250 members who share a passion for the game, QSCC is unwavering in its commitment to cricket, particularly Test matches, and to nurturing future talent from low-decile schools.
QSCC is a registered charity that provides scholarships for promising young players and grants to schools and clubs for essential cricket gear, coaching, and equipment. Over the years, the club has become a crucial supporter of the New Zealand Cricket Players Association’s widely successful Hooked-on-Cricket program. This initiative invites eight low-decile primary schools from across six associations, giving 30 kids from each school the chance to be coached and prepared by contracted players for a cricket tournament.
Funding for these incredible programs comes from a variety of sources, including QSCC’s investment portfolio, project-specific grants, donations, and the legendary annual Duck Fine. For every 'duck' scored by a New Zealand player in a Test match, members donate $5—a fun and engaging way to contribute to a great cause. Though cricket legends like Danny Morrison and Chris Martin once made frequent 'duck' donations, the recent improvement in New Zealand’s cricket performance has led to fewer 'ducks.' Thankfully, QSCC finds other creative ways to keep the donations rolling in, such as celebrating Brendon McCullum’s record-breaking score of 302 with member contributions.
Beyond donations, QSCC raises funds through annual golf days in Auckland and Christchurch, and by hosting events around international cricket matches. These gatherings bring together cricket enthusiasts, allowing them to support the future of the sport while enjoying the camaraderie that QSCC is famous for.
Apollo NZ is honored to stand with QSCC in its mission to ensure that New Zealand's youth have the opportunity to enjoy and excel at cricket, regardless of their economic background. Together, we’re building a brighter future for young cricketers across the country.
